HOMEGEARBOATSEASONSPHOTOSVIDEOSABOUT CAPT. MIKE

About the Captain:
I grew up on the North Shore of Long Island, scraping my feet on mussel beds and crawling up on boulders in pursuit of bigger and better fish.

At the age of eight, I remember fishing next to my dad (who could cast much farther than I could) and watching him cast a tin over and over into a pod of rolling bass, with no hookup. Finally, after hearing my protests, he switched to the Atom popper I’d untangled from the bottom of his tackle box. He cast, hooked up and dragged a real nice bass onto the beach. He was proud of himself, but truth be told, I considered it my fish.

A guide was born.

Since then, life has been a constant battle to keep real life from interfering with life on the water (cue the tolerant wife). Guiding has been the best way to accomplish that. I don’t yell, I don’t scream (unless you hook me, or I hook you… let’s try not to do that) and I don’t care how much experience you have. I’ve learned more about the sport by guiding other people than I ever have from fishing.

TOP: On the sharp lookout for rolling bass.
ABOVE: Superfly II gives a comfortable ride, even in chop.
BOTTOM: We supply Coast Guard Approved PFDs for all passengers.
RIGHT: It takes more than rain to spoil a Montauk fishing trip.
